Accepted in over 140 countries, it is a prerequisite for students hoping to gain admission into Graduate and Post Graduate courses in countries like the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. While the test is available in two formats – online and offline, you have to be present at the centre. Here’s how IELTS exam fees are structured.

IELTS – Refund Policy
You can claim a refund of your IELTS exam fee. However, the refund amount differs from geography to geography. For Indian student, an administrative fee of ₹3500 is deducted in lieu of processing the refund. To be eligible for a refund upon cancelling your appointment, you need to place your request at least 5 weeks prior to the test date, if you opted for the Pen & Paper based IELTS. If you opt for the computer-based IELTS, you should place your cancellation/refund request at least 3 weeks prior to the test date. Requests placed within the 5 and 3-week window respectively, will not be eligible for refunds. You need to fill an online application form on the IELTS website to place your cancellation/refund request. If you paid your IELTS fee through online remittance via your bank account or debit and credit cards, the refund amount will be credited to your source account. Cash deposits made through select banks (more on that later) are refunded via NEFT. Refunds are typically processed in 3-5 weeks1.
Modes of Payment for IELTS fees
You can remit your IELTS exam fee through different modes. The commonly accepted modes of payments include:
Bank cards: Visa and Master Card debit and credit cards are widely accepted
Net Banking: You may also pay the IELTS fees through your net banking account
Demand Drafts: Demand Drafts should be in favour of “IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, Payable at New Delhi”. The DD should be drawn of listed and *approved banks only.
Cash deposits at select banks: You may deposit cash through a customised deposit slip (in original, along with the IELTS application form) in any ICICI Bank or Allahabad Bank branch. You can download the deposit slip from the IELTS IDP India website or visit your nearest IELTS IDP branch office or agent to obtain the deposit slip.

The accepted modes of remitting IELTS exam fees are credit and debit card, net banking, and demand drafts. You may also make cash deposits at select banks, by filling in a customised IELTS deposit slip. Cheque payments are not permitted. Also, if you make a cash payment to an agent helping you register for the exam, the IELTS board will not be responsible for the same.
Yes, if you are dissatisfied with your scores, you can apply for a revaluation within six weeks of your test date. You need to select the modules you want re-assessed, fill an application form and send a demand draft of ₹11,025 drawn in favour of “IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED”, payable at Delhi. The DD should be sent along with the original test report form to the below address:

Yes, you will be eligible for a refund if your score changes. It can take anywhere from two to four weeks to get the new score and refund processed.
