DBS/POSB to avail popular 5 Million Hawker Meals subsidy on 9 Aug to celebrate Singapore’s 58th birthday

Foodies can also vote for their favourite hawkers in the DBS PayLah! Hidden Gem Hawker Awards, featuring eight new award categories this year
Singapore, 04 Aug 2023 - DBS/POSB will be availing its crowd-favourite 5 Million Hawker Meals subsidy this National Day, in celebration of Singapore’s 58th birthday. On 9 August, Singaporeans and residents can enjoy a cashback of up to SGD 3 when they are among the first 100,000 diners to use DBS PayLah! to pay for a meal at any SGQR-enabled hawker stalls. This National Day special is in addition to the hawker meal cashback that diners currently enjoy every Friday. The DBS 5 Million Hawker Meals subsidy was launched earlier in February this year to provide Singaporeans and residents some relief amid rising everyday expenses, as well as to support the hawkers’ livelihoods. To date, more than 2.3 million hawker meal subsidies have been redeemed.

Supporting and preserving Singapore’s vibrant hawker culture has always been important to DBS/POSB, with ongoing efforts to drive digital literacy and adoption among hawkers. Just last month, the bank launched the third edition of the DBS PayLah! Hidden Gem Hawker Awards, to celebrate the dedication and culinary excellence of the nation’s unsung hawker heroes and rally support to uplift their livelihoods. This year’s awards feature eight new categories that focus on not just the cuisine, but also the hawker personalities behind it. This includes awards such as the ‘Gula Melaka Award’ for the sweetest hawker personality, and the ‘Chilli Padi Award’ for the best under-30s hawker. Winners will each receive a SGD 3,000 cash prize and publicity on the bank’s platforms, as well as sponsored marketing support and coverage.
Nominations for the DBS PayLah! Hawker Awards are currently ongoing till 20 August, following which voting will commence from 4 to 24 September. The winners will be unveiled on 9 October.
