Training provided by DBS Foundation and Dicoding equips vocational high school students with AI skills, financial literacy, and soft skills that are increasingly in demand by the industries of the future

To address the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) skills in the world of work, DBS Foundation, in partnership with Dicoding, ran a Coding Camp Workshop at SMK Wikrama Bogor. This initiative is an in-person training programme designed to equip vocational high school students with AI technology skills, financial literacy, and soft skills to prepare them for their careers.

The workshop was part of the Coding Camp programme powered by DBS Foundation, a national digital training initiative that has, since 2023, focused on providing structured, high-quality learning to produce skilled graduates ready for careers in technology companies and startups. To date, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation has trained and reached 227,000 participants, including over 15,000 students from more than 1,500 vocational high schools across Indonesia, with SMK Wikrama Bogor being one of the largest contributors of participants. For the period 2025–2026, the school sent 155 students, or about 13% of the total 1,200 vocational high school participants, to the Coding Camp intensive programme.

“DBS Foundation is committed to expanding access to education for young people and increasing their work readiness in an inclusive manner. Today’s Coding Camp at SMK Wikrama demonstrates our commitment to equipping young people, particularly vocational students, with the skills needed in today’s and tomorrow’s world of work, especially in the current era of AI. This ensures they have the opportunities and means to advance and thrive. This is aligned with DBS Foundation’s mission to promote financial and digital inclusion,” said Head of Group Marketing & Communications PT Bank DBS Indonesia Mona Monika.

Why are AI skills crucial for vocational high school students?

AI-driven digital transformation is rapidly reshaping the skills required by the global workforce, including in Indonesia. AI literacy is no longer just an additional skill but a core competency required to enter the digital workforce. Indonesian Developer Outlook 2026 data shows that 86% of Indonesian developers have already incorporated AI into their work, signaling a significant shift in the technology industry skill standards.
These changes are also impacting vocational education. Vocational high school graduates are not only expected to master technical skills but also to adapt to new technologies, think critically, collaborate across disciplines, and understand how to leverage AI to boost productivity and innovation in the workplace.

These needs highlight the importance of a vocational curriculum that is more responsive to industry developments, featuring a learning approach based on real-world practices and hands-on experience with the latest technologies. Recognising that talent readiness is the foundation of digital economic growth, Bank DBS Indonesia, through DBS Foundation, collaborates with Dicoding to play an active role in expanding access to technology and AI education for the younger generation while preparing Indonesia’s workforce to compete and adapt in the future. This initiative is part of Bank DBS Indonesia’s long-term commitment to creating impact for society beyond the banking business (Impact Beyond Banking).

What do students learn in the Coding Camp Workshop?

In addition to learning technical skills taught by Dicoding instructors, students at SMK Wikrama also learned about soft skills and financial literacy from Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees. These classes are designed to ensure that participants are not only technically skilled but also possess strong communication skills, are adaptable, and are able to manage their finances wisely.

This teaching initiative is part of Bank DBS Indonesia’s employee volunteer programme, People of Purpose (PoP). In total, since 2025, 223 Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees have contributed more than 5,500 hours of teaching on topics such as financial literacy, business presentations and communication, and personal branding, as part of the Coding Camp programme powered by DBS Foundation.

SMK Wikrama Principal Iin Mulyani said, “Coding Camp is a high-quality digital training programme held by Bank DBS Indonesia that consistently provides our vocational high school students with the opportunity to learn either intensively (800+ hours) or progressively (100+ hours). In view of the programme’s positive impact on alumni employment rates, we fully support the joint workshop held today. We hope that Coding Camp can continue and benefit vocational high school students, particularly in building portfolios and earning micro-credentials to help them secure employment.”

Meanwhile, Muhammad Yazid Wiliadi, speaking on behalf of the SMK Wikrama Bogor alumni, discussed the benefits of the Coding Camp programme he joined last year. Yazid completed the advanced level of the Full Stack Web Developer course.

“As a result, I was able to secure an internship as front-end developer and quality assurance specialist at an IT and software development company in Yogyakarta,” he said. Today, while pursuing his studies at the Universitas Terbuka, Yazid continues to hone his skills by working part-time as a web developer for a number of clients and on his own novel project.
