The programme is a manifestation of DBS Bank Ltd's (DBS Bank) third sustainability pillar, Impact Beyond Banking, in line with its vision to be the 'Best Bank for A Better World'. The DBS Foundation Coding Camp will return in 2025 and the inauguration of this programme was attended by the Academic Director of Vocational Higher Education Dr. Beny Bandanadjaja, S.T., M.T.; Head of Kampus Merdeka Mandiri Dessy Aliandrina, S.T, M.Sc, PhD; Kampus Merdeka Mandiri Manager Heru Wijaya; Founder & CEO of Dicoding Narenda Wicaksono; Head of Group Strategic Marketing & Communications at PT Bank DBS Indonesia Mona Monika, and 2023-2024 alumni of the DBS Foundation Coding Camp.
In 2023, DBS Bank announced it would commit SGD1 billion over the next 10 years to support vulnerable communities and enhance social impact, including improving the well-being of low-income and disadvantaged people to foster a more inclusive community. The DBS Foundation Coding Camp is part of the first SGD100 million deployed in 2024.
Since its inception, more than 114,000 participants have received training; 56 percent of them are students of higher education institutions and high schools. Of the total, 17,000 are participants from diploma studies and vocational high schools (SMK) that represent the vocational education level. Furthermore, the Coding Camp programme also focuses on social empowerment as it ensures the participation of vulnerable groups.
In view of the high interest in this Information Technology training programme, the DBS Foundation Coding Camp will return in 2025 to target college and high school students, including D3 and D4 diploma programme students and vocational school students as priority participants. In addition, the next key targets of the programme are people with disabilities, women, educators, and low-income citizens -groups that are strongly supported to enroll and achieve equity in the IT field.
Selected participants will receive structured technology training for more than 900 hours or 1 semester starting in early 2025. To complete their experience, in addition to tech skills, they will also learn soft skills (topics: communication and networking, personal branding, job interview preparation, etc.), English (topics: business conversation and presentation), and financial literacy (topics: personal finance, investment, and wealth management).
Participants can choose one of the following two learning paths, namely Front-End & Back-End or Machine Learning -both of which are listed in the top 10 most sought-after jobs according to Linkedin. In the front-end and back-end learning path, participants will learn web programming from both the front-end and back-end sides with job opportunities to become Front-End Developers, Back-End Developers, to Full Stack Developers. Meanwhile, in the machine learning pathway, participants will explore topics on data, machine learning, deep learning to generative AI (Artificial Intelligence), which will open up career opportunities for them as AI/Machine Learning Engineers.
Mona Monika, Head of Group Strategic Marketing and Communications at PT Bank DBS Indonesia, said, "Coding Camp is a DBS Foundation’s initiative that aims to expand access to digital literacy for learners across Indonesia. Through this programme, we hope to empower the younger generation with relevant and ready-to-use digital skills. This is an important step towards creating future-ready talents that will help create a more inclusive and empowered society. Through this programme, all participants can realise their aspirations and goals according to their respective 'spark ' or interest in the future."
Dr. Beny Bandanadjaja, S.T., M.T., Academic Director of Vocational Higher Education, said, “On behalf of the Directorate General of Vocational Education, I would like to express my high appreciation to DBS Foundation for their initiative in bringing about Coding Camp for Indonesia. This career orientation programme has an excellent and inclusive design. Nowadays, mastery of information technology is needed by students from various fields of study. We are confident that this Coding Camp will be able to produce vocational education graduates who are more superior, highly competitive, and have future-ready skills.”
Looking back, for almost two years now, the DBS Foundation Coding Camp has provided inclusive technology learning. The programme has reached 26,000 women, 946 people with disabilities, and more than 22,000 participants from underprivileged families.
One of the female alumni, Hani Amany Elisadi (24), is a deaf graduate of the DBS Foundation Coding Camp. Limited communication skills did not dampen Hani's enthusiasm for learning. Her learning experience shaped Hani's career readiness as an IT staff member at Perum Peruri. “Learning at the Coding Camp facilitated by DBS Foundation has given me additional skills in the Front-End field so that I can have career advancement opportunities,” she said.
There is also Mohamad Aji Hermansya (21), an alumnus of the 2024 DBS Foundation Coding Camp. This young innovator is still studying Software Engineering Technology at the Banyuwangi State Polytechnic. “My learning experience in this programme has broadened my horison in the Front-End field and gave me confidence to build Puspa Daya, an application that can automatically record the nutritional status of babies,” Aji explained. Born out of Aji’s and his team's concern about the high stunting rate in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, this innovation was later funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and supported by The University of Sydney.
Registration for the 2025 DBS Foundation Coding Camp is officially open.
In 2025-2026, the programme will provide structured technology training for 6,000 aspiring digital talents in Indonesia who can contribute to the local ecosystem or become global innovators.
