DBS Visa contactless debit card allows customers perform transactions of up to Rp1,000,000 with just a single tap

Indonesia, 07 Dec 2023 - Bank DBS Indonesia launched the contactless feature on DBS Visa debit card. The feature allows customers to simply tap their debit card to the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machine without inserting the card or entering a personal identification number (PIN). This ensures efficiency and ease of transactions for customers.

Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes 2022 study revealed that contactless payments are proliferating in Southeast Asia, up 38 percent in 2020. According to the study, more than three in five consumers in Southeast Asia (63 percent) reported a significant increase in the use of contactless payment methods during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Indonesia (69 percent), the Philippines (69 percent), and Malaysia (68 percent). In the case of Indonesia, the trend signaled a growing awareness of contactless cards among the population (69 percent), with 75 percent expressing interest in using the cashless payment method. Based on this development, Bank DBS Indonesia presents DBS Visa contactless debit card that not only simplifies the transaction process but also increases payment security.

Consumer Banking Director at PT Bank DBS Indonesia Rudy Tandjung said, "With DBS Visa contactless debit card, customers are now able to make transactions of up to Rp1,000,000 per day with just one tap. This product is a manifestation of our commitment to providing a joyful and secure banking experience for customers while emphasising Bank DBS Indonesia's commitment to providing services that are innovative and relevant to customer needs. This is in accordance with our mission to be 'More like an innovator, less like a bank'."

In terms of transaction security, DBS Visa contactless debit card helps reduce the risk of hacking or data theft during transactions because customers only need to attach the card to the EDC machine without the need to transfer the card to another person and enter a PIN. Transactions can only be made when the card is within about 2.5-5 cm of the EDC machine to prevent anyone else from reading the information on the reader. In addition, the transaction limit of Rp1,000,000 per day mitigates the risks associated with unauthorised card usage. Contactless transactions are currently only possible overseas, but DBS Visa contactless debit card can still be used in Indonesia by inserting the card into an EDC machine.

Moreover, DBS Visa debit card also comes with a new vertical design that looks more elegant while still visible in the wallet. The attractive design not only increases the aesthetic value but also makes it easier for customers to tap the card on the reader to make contactless transactions.

Customers can replace their debit cards with DBS Visa contactless debit cards. The replacement fee is Rp50,000 for digibank by DBS customers and free of charge for DBS Treasures and DBS Treasures Private Client customers.

"Now, there are probably customers who are worried about not remembering their PIN or about the modus operandi of frauds that often occur. We believe that DBS Visa contactless debit card can minimise unwanted incidents and people will no longer be bothered with banking matters, in accordance with our 'Live more, Bank less' principle," Rudy Tandjung concluded.
