LiveBetter feature makes it easy for customers to transact while making an impact on the environment

"Disrupsi Itu Seru!" book launch: Sustainable finance and banks build momentum for change

Indonesia, 20 Jun 2023 - Bank DBS Indonesia introduced the LiveBetter feature on the digibank by DBS application that allows customers to get tips on sustainable lifestyle and invest in Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) based products. The presence of the LiveBetter feature makes digibank by DBS a one-stop digital platform to fulfill financial transaction needs while making a real impact on the environment. The launch was attended by Head of Digital Banking PT Bank DBS Indonesia Erline Diani, Actress and Environmental Activist Nadine Alexandra, and Head of Legal & Corporate Secretary PT Bank DBS Indonesia Yosea Iskandar. On the same occasion, Yosea Iskandar also introduced a book on digital transformation in the banking sector titled “Disrupsi Itu Seru!” (Disruption is Fun).

The 2022 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) found growth in the financial literacy index of the Indonesian people from 38.03 percent in 2019 to 49.68 percent in 2022. This shows an increase in people's understanding and trust in various financial products and service institutions, as well as their skills in using them. On the other hand, a Rakuten Insight survey in 2022 revealed that around 79 percent of respondents in Indonesia claimed to be willing to pay more for sustainable products, and most respondents have adopted sustainable practices in the past year.

Head of Digital Banking PT Bank DBS Indonesia Erline Diani said the LiveBetter feature helped drive the positive trend, "The level of public awareness of investment and sustainability issues is getting higher. However, many of them do not have sufficient understanding of ESG-based investments. We hope the LiveBetter feature can help customers to better understand sustainability issues through tips and insights and also make it easier for customers to learn and manage green investment instruments that suit their risk profile. Through this LiveBetter feature, customers can easily grow their money while protecting the earth on the digibank by DBS app in accordance with our principle of 'Live more, Bank less'."

The LiveBetter feature, which will be available on the digibank by DBS app starting July 8, 2023, is a manifestation of Bank DBS Indonesia's sustainability pillars, namely Responsible Banking and Create Impact Beyond Banking. Bank DBS Indonesia strives to provide impact beyond banking services by presenting products that have a positive impact on the environment and society. "The LiveBetter feature not only fulfills Bank DBS Indonesia's obligations towards sustainable development, but also helps maximize the bank's capabilities in creating sustainable economic growth that aligns economic, social and environmental interests. This seriousness in realizing sustainability business is what makes Bank DBS Indonesia different, 'More like an eco-warrior, less like a bank'," said Erline Diani.

On the same occasion, Actress and Environmental Activist Nadine Alexandra also shared how she contributes to preserving the environment, "Recently, I accompanied BOS Foundation in releasing a number of orangutans in Kalimantan, and it opened my eyes to the importance of preserving forest habitats and the environment as a whole. I am glad that with features like LiveBetter, people can understand more about ESG and be moved to contribute in bringing about change."

"Disrupsi Itu Seru!": Sustainable Finance and Banks Build Momentum for Change

Observing the digital transformation in the banking world, Head of Legal & Corporate Secretary of PT Bank DBS Indonesia Yosea Iskandar expressed his thoughts through his work entitled "Disrupsi Itu Seru". In brief, this book reveals the transformation of the financial industry through adaptation and innovation, where transformation in the financial and banking industry occurs when there is disruption, either with the emergence of new technology, changes in consumer behavior, or changes in regulations. This book has some important notes to always adapt and innovate in building a better financial future.

"I hope this book can inspire many people to think more deeply about the role that the finance and banking industry plays. Whether as consumers, workers, business owners, or policymakers, it is crucial that we have a good understanding of the industry and its influence on our daily lives," said Yosea Iskandar.

In the 135-page book "Disrupsi Itu Seru!", the author explains in the subheading Sustainable Finance and Banks-Building the Momentum of Change that banks have an important role to play in protecting the environment. This is stated in the issuance of the Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) which requires banks to report activities that contain the company's economic, financial, social and environmental performance in conducting sustainable business activities. Supported by Bank DBS Indonesia's strategic position to support environmental protection and sustainable development goals, digital transformation such as the LiveBetter feature is a step that is in line with the company's vision of becoming the 'Best Bank for A Better World'.

Bank DBS Indonesia's Sustainability Efforts to Become the 'Best Bank for A Better World'

In realizing its vision, Bank DBS Indonesia is committed to integrating environmental and social factors in each of its business lines through three sustainability pillars namely Responsible Banking, Responsible Business Practice, and Create Impact Beyond Banking. The first pillar is Responsible Banking which focuses on responsible banking products such as green financing including sustainability loan, sustainability linked-loan/bond, including LiveBetter feature.

The second pillar, Responsible Business Practice, refers to Bank DBS Indonesia's efforts in implementing more environmentally friendly policies in daily business operations to reduce carbon emissions, including the use of solar panels in several branch offices, saving paper and managing office waste responsibly. The third pillar is Create Impact Beyond Banking which focuses on social activities including financial literacy, the #MakanTanpaSisa campaign, and the DBS Foundation.
