"During its 34-year journey, Bank DBS Indonesia has continuously developed products and services to enable customers to 'Live more, Bank less'. We offer various features on the digibank by DBS application to help customers manage their finances so that they can achieve their financial goals. Thus, we continue to innovate so that customers can transact business (or make a transaction), save money, manage cash flow, invest, and contribute positively to the environment in one application," said Lim Chu Chong, President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia.
From 2022 to 2023, Bank DBS Indonesia saw the use of digibank credit card grow more than 30%, supported by the aggressive use of credit cards for travel and to make purchases in online marketplaces and e-commerce platforms.
Technological disruption as foundation for impactful innovation
Since it first entered the Indonesian market, Bank DBS Indonesia has continued to strive to offer customer convenience and comfort and to leverage technology to transform digital banking, including through the launch of the digibank by DBS app in 2017. These visionary measures were further accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic as industries, including the banking industry, had to adapt to deal with constraints and stay connected with customers. Technological disruption is changing the way we interact and deliver services, and affecting customer preferences for banking products.
The digibank by DBS application has evolved into a full-fledged digital banking app with complete and competitive features that make it easier for customers to conduct daily banking transactions. From managing finances, to investing, applying for loans and credit cards, all can be done in a single application. This digital banking solution continues to evolve to become more intuitive, smarter and personalised in line with Bank DBS Indonesia's core principle, 'Live more, Bank less'. As a result, along with an increase in the number of active users of the digibank by DBS app, the amount of third-party fund account balances has also doubled in the last two years alongside a 60% growth in investment account balances compared to the same period in 2022.
In addition to focusing on technological innovation, Bank DBS Indonesia as a purpose-driven bank also promotes sustainable change by integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into every line of business. This is outlined in Bank DBS Indonesia's three sustainability pillars, namely Responsible Banking, Responsible Business Practice, and Impact Beyond Banking.
The first pillar, Responsible Banking, focuses on responsible banking products such as green financing, including sustainability loans, sustainability linked-loansandbonds. As of May 2023, the green financing disbursed by Bank DBS Indonesia to the real estate and energy sectors has increased by IDR3.9T or 249% yoy. For the retail business, as a pioneer of digital banking in Indonesia, Bank DBS Indonesia focuses on expanding the options for ESG-themed equity and mutual fund investment products on the digibank by DBS application.
The second pillar, Responsible Business Practice, pertains to the bank's efforts to implement the ESG strategy in its daily operations to reduce carbon emissions. These include the use of solar panels in several branch offices, efforts to reduce paper consumption (or go paperless) and waste management at the head office and all branch offices in collaboration with Waste4Change, one of the partners and a social entrepreneur that received a grant from DBS Foundation. The third pillar, Impact Beyond Banking, focuses on social activities such as financial literacy, the #MakanTanpaSisa movement, and DBS Foundation.
In addition to making banking joyful for customers, Bank DBS Indonesia also prioritises a pleasant banking experience for employees through the F3W concept: Future of work, which is how the bank creates flexible work policies, future of workforce that prioritises human resources (HR) development, and the future of the workplace to create a positive work environment. These efforts were recognised by HR Asia, which recently named Bank DBS Indonesia the Best Place to Work.
