Training Provided for 3,000 College & Vocational Students and 57,000 Digital Talents to Support Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision

Indonesia, 31 Jul 2025 - As a bank committed to creating an impact on vulnerable communities, Bank DBS Indonesia together with DBS Foundation has provided a semester-long intensive technology training course for 3,000 university students and Vocational High School (SMK) students, as well as basic training for 57,000 digital talents in Front-End & Back-End and Machine Learning through Coding Camp 2025 powered by DBS Foundation. The programme has produced 30,864 new micro-credentials or certificates of competency in Front-End & Back-End or Machine Learning from basic to advanced levels for Indonesia. Furthermore, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation will also help graduates find jobs through an online Job Exchange Event.

Today, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation held a graduation ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Dikti Saintek) Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia Lim Chu Chong, and CEO Dicoding Narenda Wicaksono. Also present at the event were high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, coordinators of partner universities and vocational schools, Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees who volunteer as  instructors, and a number of top graduates.

Established in 2023, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation provides technology training that aims to deliver structured, high-quality learning to create career-ready graduates with the skills they need to flourish in tech companies and startups. The programme is part of the commitment pledged by DBS Bank to allocating SGD1 billion over the next 10 years to support vulnerable communities and increase social impact, including improving public welfare to promote a more inclusive society.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. said, “I appreciate the Coding Camp, which is able to hone hard skills and develop soft skills, financial literacy, and critical thinking. The programme is a concrete manifestation of an education system that adapts to a world that is constantly changing. This is a story of determination, energy, and togetherness in building the foundation for superior human resources in the field of technology. The world needs skilled coders, and thinkers who are able to combine technical skills with conscience.”

Entering its third year, and to broaden the impact of the programme, the programme was transformed into an 833-hour-long intensive training course for SMK students and 928-hour-long course for university students. Through a rigorous selection of 63,000+ applicants, 2,400 university students and 600 SMK students were selected from 575 schools and campuses across Indonesia. 32 percent of them were female, 93 percent were from small and medium-sized cities, and 625 individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

By joining the programme, participants acquire multidisciplinary, in-depth, and up-to-date tech skills, soft skills, and mastery of the English language that they need to start their career as full-stack developers or AI/machine-learning engineers. What is unique about this Coding Camp programme is the involvement of Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees as volunteers who teach financial literacy and soft skills classes. A total of 103 employees have contributed 2,852 hours of teaching in the employee volunteer programme or People of Purpose (PoP).

President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia, Lim Chu Chong said, “We believe that Bank DBS Indonesia has a role that goes far beyond its mission of providing financial banking services. In line with our third sustainability pillar, Impact Beyond Banking, the Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life and well-being of vulnerable communities in Indonesia by promoting digital inclusion and empowering the next generation of digital talents in Indonesia. This training not only equips them with digital skills but also prepares them to become future-ready talents capable of becoming innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in the digital economy of the future.”

At the end of the training period, participants also produced 482 digital works aimed at solving various social issues. This was a project-based learning programme called the capstone project,” which required students to work in groups and applied their knowledge by creating a portfolio of ready-to-use applications. Among the best capstone projects is Isyara, one of six showcases at the graduation event. Led by six students from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Jember State Polytechnic, and the Nurul Fikri Integrated Technology College, Isyara is an educational website designed to popularise sign language in Indonesia in an enjoyable way so that it can become a universal language understood by all segments of society.

CEO Dicoding Narenda Wicaksono said, “As a technology education institution, Dicoding is proud to have been entrusted by DBS Foundation to organise and provide the curriculum for this programme since 2023. DBS Foundation’s vision is in line with our vision of providing technology training to transform lives. In fact, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation has expanded learning opportunities for selected participants in the intensive programme, including students from 375 universities and 200 vocational schools, as well as 57,000 others who received basic training. Their participation has demonstrated the determination of Indonesia's aspiring digital talents, including those from underprivileged backgrounds and individuals with disabilities who have successfully graduated. As a result, they now have greater opportunities to improve their quality of life.

Inclusive Learning Programmes and Support for Participants Entering the Workforce

Valentio Stanley Gunadi, a representative of the deaf alumni, is a graduate of Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation. Valentio, a Bina Nusantara University student who is also deafdisabled, revealed that the programme was designed to be inclusive and accessible to deaf participants like him. The written modules and closed caption features available in various learning modules greatly helped him to explore AI in the field of machine learning, enabling him to successfully graduate. After completing the programme, he aspires to become a valuable IT specialist in the professional world. He also hoped the Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation programme would accept more deaf participants as samples of the deafdisabled population in the technology sector are slowly growing.

Next, there is Muhammad Siddiq Fathurahman, a student at SMKN 2 Yogyakarta who was hired as a Front-End Developer Intern at Coding Collective, a software house in Yogyakarta. “Because I told them about the capstone project I developed with my team, the company was interested in recruiting me,” he explained. The son of an online motorcycle taxi driver who is also the top graduate, he is proud of his achievement. He now has the skills to build a better life for his family.

Considering the broad social impact of the programme, Coding Camp powered by DBS Foundation will return in 2026. Don’t miss the registration announcement in October 2025.
