Driven by the spirit of sustainability and the commitment to preserving the environment and local wisdom, Bank DBS Indonesia collaborated with BenihBaik.com to revive the Betawi Cultural Village in Setu Babakan, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta through the "Preserve Nature and Culture for a More Sustainable Jakarta" (Jaga Alam dan Budaya untuk Jakarta yang Lebih Berkelanjutan) programme. The activity, attended by President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia Lim Chu Chong and BenihBaik.com CEO and Founder Andy F. Noya, was a collaborative effort involving more than 250 Bank DBS Indonesia employees and residents. With a passion to be a bank like no other, Bank DBS Indonesia's commitment to sustainability inspires people to 'Live to preserve more, Bank less'.
Apart from being an icon of Betawi culture, Setu Babakan also plays a key role as a flood control point so that it needs to be maintained to ensure its cultural and environmental sustainability. As a purpose-driven bank, Bank DBS Indonesia cares about sustainability issues and has pledged commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects. To realise this commitment, Bank DBS Indonesia supports the preservation of Setu Babakan, including by cleaning up the area around it which resulted in 292.8 kg of waste collected in one hour, plant trembesi trees for a greener future, and distribute portable rubbish bins to encourage clean living. Additionally, Bank DBS Indonesia taught people how to turn waste into valuable products and held basic financial literacy classes to empower local residents. The series of education programmes was presented by Bank DBS Indonesia employees as part of the People of Purpose volunteer movement.

This year, Bank DBS Indonesia plans to plant around 5,000 mangrove, trembesi and other tropical forest trees in Jakarta, Cilegon, Bogor and Bali. Moreover, as of July 2023, Bank DBS Indonesia employees have logged 12,169 hours dedicated to volunteer activities as part of the People of Purpose movement.
The financial literacy education programme organised by Bank DBS Indonesia for residents in Setu Babakan, Jagakarsa was also in accordance with the government's policy to improve Indonesia’s financial and digital literacy rates. Recently, Bank DBS Indonesia held financial literacy education programmes on how to manage resources, income, assets and working capital more effectively for MSMEs in several cities, including Makassar, Medan, Pontianak and Balikpapan.
