DBS invites festival goers to “Ignite your Spark” at i Light Singapore and GastroBeats 2023!

Singapore, 31 May 2023 - DBS is back as the presenting sponsor of i Light Singapore 2023, Asia’s leading sustainable light festival taking place from 1 to 25 June! This builds on DBS’ ongoing efforts in and around the Marina Bay area to give back to the community, including the recent launch of a multi-year partnership with Esplanade to provide more experiences for people to discover and express themselves.
This year, DBS invites festival goers to “Ignite Your Spark” by bringing out the best in themselves and paying it forward to help shape a better, brighter world. Festival goers can look forward to fun games designed around relatable themes of self-care, sustainable living, and being future-ready; Instagrammable visual installations, including artwork that will later be recycled and given a new lease of life; and stage performances by local talents who shine bright despite their disabilities, among other experiences.
Embark on the DBS passport journey
Anchoring DBS’ “Ignite Your Spark” experience is the DBS passport, which festival goers can easily access by scanning a QR code using their mobile phones. This will kickstart an interactive journey where they’d be challenged to collect four digital stamps on their DBS passport[1] by participating in various experiences at Blumiwave and within the DBS Zone (more details in following sections).
Those who complete the challenge stand to win DBS swag (limited stocks only) and, in line with the bank’s aim of galvanising the community to drive collective good, will also be able to pay it forward – in a partnership between DBS and Food from the Heart, each completion of the DBS Passport challenge will go towards supporting meal donations to families in need.
DBS presents ‘Blumiwave’ artwork – to be recycled in ‘NEWBitumen’ for eco-roads after the festival
Festival goers can start their journey with Blumiwave at Mist Walk, an artwork that aims to raise awareness of blue energy, an alternative renewable energy source harnessed from the sea and river waters. Created by local artists from DP Design, Blumiwave features ‘crashing’ sculptural waves made of a carefully weaved fabric of safety nets and scaffolding salvaged from construction sites. Here, the team transforms what are normally perceived as unsightly materials into a space that invites multiple interpretations of the mundane and its possibilities.
In the spirit of giving discarded materials a new lease of life, all plastics used in the build of Blumiwave will be recycled by Magorium after the festival. Supported by DBS Foundation, Magorium is a social enterprise that converts plastic waste into a sustainable construction material called ‘NEWBitumen’, which can be used to pave eco-roads. ‘NEWBitumen’ was also used in paving the driveway of DBS Newton Green, Singapore’s first net zero building by a bank.
DBS Zone at GastroBeats – for fun games, immersive experiences, and inspirational performances by local talents!
Then, head over to the DBS Zone at the heart of GastroBeats, the festival village of i Light Singapore, for an exciting array of activities – all of which are free for play!
Key highlights at the DBS Zone include Find Your Spark, where a Glambot camera will capture festival goers in cinematic, slow-motion video reels in an experience befitting of the red carpet – just like the Oscars! This marks the first time such an experience is availed to the public in Singapore. In a hunt for the “brightest” sparks in the room, DBS will also be holding a social media contest inviting participants to post their Glambot videos on Instagram along with a creative caption about self-love – the three best entries will win an Apple Watch SE (worth SGD 380) each.
Friends and family in the mood for games can put their muscles and teamwork to the test in Eco Row and Glow, where they will be tasked to power rowing machines to light up an installation; or test their reflexes and financial smarts at Money Matchmaker and Made for Travel, where they will be time-pressed to solve challenges on their feet.
For those with little ones, fret not! Head over to POSB Money Smarts, a play zone where learning about money matters is made fun through specially designed digital artboards and animations to stimulate their creativity.

- Live performances by the community every Friday and Saturday: From 6pm to 7pm every Friday and Saturday, DBS will be presenting an enthralling line-up of performances by local talents who exemplify what it means to rise above life’s challenges. From jazz and classical piano and drumming performances, to pop music and soprano acts and more, festival goers can expect to be blown away by these talented and resilient individuals who embody what it truly means to be a hero.
- Transform food waste into animal feed and fertilisers: Ento Industries, also a business for impact supported by DBS Foundation, is coming in as GastroBeats’ food waste solution partner! Using its horde of Black Soldier Flies, all food waste collected from festival goers and vendors at GastroBeats will be sent to Ento Industries for conversion into high-value end products such as animal feed and fertilisers.
- Explore sustainable fashion at the DBS Zone: Festival goers can glam up their Glambot reels with accessories from Fashion Pulpit, a social enterprise that aims to promote environmental education and awareness in the field of fashion. Fashion Pulpit will also be styling mannequins with upcycled looks, which will be displayed at the ‘Find Your Spark’ booth.
