50th anniversary celebrations sweetened as brand value rises over 20% to USD 6.5 billion

Singapore, 02 Aug 2018 - DBS Bank continues to be Singapore’s Most Valuable Brand, according to Brand Finance’s annual “Top 100 Singapore Brands” report. With a brand value of USD 6.5 billion, this is the sixth consecutive year the bank has retained its leadership position in Singapore.

DBS’ brand value increased by USD 1.1 billion from 2017, a rise of 20.3%. This was more than double the average brand growth of 9% among the Top 100 Singapore brands, and contributed over 45% to brand value growth across the top 10 brands in Singapore.

According to Brand Finance, DBS is one of just three brands in the Top 10 to be rated AAA- in 2018, alongside Singtel and Singapore Airlines.

Karen Ngui, Head of Group Strategic Marketing & Communications, DBS Bank said, “As we celebrate DBS’ 50th anniversary, being named Singapore’s most valuable brand for the sixth consecutive year, and being recognised as the world’s best digital bank for the second time, is indeed an honour. The recognition is testament to our drive to respond to customer needs in a fast-changing world by embracing digitalisation and human-centered design thinking. It is also made possible by the dedication and enterprising efforts of our 26,000-strong Team DBS. We remain firmly determined to continue on our journey to reimagine banking and seamlessly integrate banking into the businesses and lives of our customers in Singapore and all around the region.”

DBS also ranks first on the list of Most Valuable Bank Brands in ASEAN for the sixth consecutive year[1]. In addition, the bank is also among the top 40 global financial brands in the world, according to the ‘Brand Finance Top 500 Most Valuable Bank Brands 2018’ report.

Samir Dixit, Managing Director of Brand Finance Asia Pacific said, “While DBS seems unshakeable as the #1 Singapore brand, the real test of brand strength and brand value growth for DBS is reflected in the “Top 500 Global Banking Brands”, where they are ranked 40th globally. This highlights their strong and steady growth and shows that DBS is truly a globally competitive brand and not just a strong Singapore or ASEAN brand. When people focus less on your geographic origin as a brand, that’s when a brand is truly successful, and we can say that about DBS.”

London-based Brand Finance is an independent brand strategy and valuation consultancy. The Singapore Top 100 Brands report is published annually and incorporates data from all listed companies. Each brand is accorded a brand rating: a benchmarking study of the strength, risk and future potential of a brand relative to its competitor set; and a brand value, which is a summary measure of the financial strength of the brand.
