As hosts, we determine the flow of talks and events. How do we ensure that the audience enjoy the show from beginning to end? The key is to make sure that we know about the topic of discussion and to guide the conversation around it.
Public speaking is not about the speaker, it’s about the audience. Before hosting an event, we should know our audience in advance and allow the audience to feel "familiar" with and "close" to us. That way, the audience will feel comfortable and relevant during the event.
As presenters, it is our job to convey the message of the ongoing event. Therefore, keep things straight forward. Short, concise, and clear!
Besides knowing the audience, there are several other important things that must be considered, namely posture and stance, well-prepared materials, accuracy of speech, language style, and attire. Make sure everything fits the event.
Finally, to prevent something bad from happening, it is very important to make careful preparation! Prepare yourself at least one week in advance, such as understanding the programme, the audience, and the topic of the event. Make small notes and practice discussing the topic so that you will feel calmer.
"Basically, all forms of communication, such as talking with other people in daily life, ordering food, chatting with friends, are forms of public speaking. The purpose of public speaking is to convey information (to inform), influence, and entertain. In addition to the messages of the programme we must deliver, it is also important for us, as host, to express our feelings because the audience will remember it when they leave the event," said Talkinc's Associate Facilitator Dave Hendrik.
Apart from the public speaking class with Talkinc, there will be an online writing class with Tempo Institute; a photography class with Timur Angin, a seasoned Indonesian photographer who specialises in human interest photography; and classes on practice finance for entrepreneurs to be held every month throughout the year. Further information on the schedule of online classes and other Live More Society activities is available on the Live More Society website. "Besides engaging in banking activities, but we are also committed to empowering customers, communities, and the people of Indonesia by providing solutions in the form of various activities that are relevant, innovative, resourceful, and attractive to help them attain personal development goals according to their needs," Mona Monika said.
