Bringing employees together to get through pandemic through (vaccine) booster programme, Health Talk, and Together FM Radio

Indonesia, 14 Mar 2022 - As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is increasing, with more than 37,000 cases recorded per day[1]in the last seven days, many companies are re-implementing (or extending) the work from home protocols. As a purpose-driven bank, Bank DBS Indonesia is committed to maintaining work-life balance by applying policies that accomodate employees’ needs in the midst of the pandemic.

"The health, safety and welfare of employees, particularly during the pandemic, are very important and we are optimistic that we can get through it together. In essence, we make efforts to maintain employee health through a holistic approach that is integrated with all elements of the company, including our corporate culture and operating model. We combine information on workplace health research and listen to employee input to be able to take the appropriate steps to keep employees productive and satisfied with the company’s services,” saidPaulus Sutisna,President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia.

As the pandemic entered its second year, Bank DBS Indonesia has made consistent efforts to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on both its employees and the general public, including:

vaksinasi booster
  • Bank DBS Indonesia’s Gotong Royong Vaccine Booster Center

On 12 February and 12 March 2022, Bank DBS Indonesia and Kimia Farma organised the “Bank DBS Indonesia’s Gotong Royong Vaccine (VGR) Booster” programme in Jakarta, making Bank DBS Indonesia one of the first banks to organise a vaccine booster programme. The third dose of the Sinopharm vaccine (booster) was given to Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees and their family members who have received their first and second VGR jabs. The vaccination programme underlined Bank DBS Indonesia's support for the health of its employees and their family members and for the government's national vaccination programme to create herd immunity in Indonesia. Bank DBS Indonesia held the first VGR programme on 19-20 June 2021, 23-26 June 2021, and the second on 27-28 August 2021. Apart from that, Bank DBS Indonesia also held a weekly vaccination programme from 18 September 2021 to 10 January 2022 for those who missed the first and second programmes to ensure that all employees and their family members are fully vaccinated.

  • Ensuring employee health and educating employees through holistic employee wellbeing programme

Bank DBS Indonesia regularly holds the Health Talk series for employees and invites health experts so that employees get the latest information about health issues. In 2021, the Health Talk series was divided into four broad quarterly categories, namely Stay Well, Save Well, Live Well, and Eat Well with themes closely related to each category.

Each topic is thoroughly discussed by accomplished and credible health experts such as Ministry of Health Spokesperson dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid, Head of Epidemiology and Immunisation Surveillance Section, the Jakarta Health Office dr. Ngabila Salama, and other accomplished experts. Furthermore, Bank DBS Indonesia keeps its employees updated on the latest news on Covid-19 to enrich Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees with deeper insights into the dangers of Covid-19 and its prevention.

In 2022, Bank DBS Indonesia will focus on employee wellbeing and will start the Health Talk series with a discussion on the dangers of the Omicron variant and how to protect ourselves from it. The Health Talk series is expected to widen the knowledge of Bank DBS Indonesia’s employees on how to stay healthy during the pandemic.

We understand that the pandemic has removed the boundaries between professional and personal life that can pose mental health challenges in an individual. We want our colleagues at Bank DBS Indonesia to be able to practice self-care because everything starts with you and each individual is unique. What is self-care? Why is it important? Practicing self-care means taking the initiative to increase our physical, mental, and emotional health quality. Self-care is different for every individual because each person has different sources of energy. It could be doing physical exercise, daily meditation, spending a day at the beach, pursuing a hobby of diary writing, or maybe an hour of doing nothing to clear your mind. This is not about doing something but more about how you feel when you’re doing it. DBS Indonesia holds the Your Mind Challenge’ competition that is open for all of DBS employees, from self-reflection to keeping tab on stress management and how to maintain a positive mood using the ihealth Well app on a daily basis to determine stuff that helps you refresh yourself and build a self-care habit to start prioritising personal well-being.

For 2022, DBS Indonesia has increased employee insurance coverage by facilitating an immunisation programme for children. There is no age limit for the programme (previously, an age limit of 13 was applied). In addition, there is no limit to health claims and no requirement for original documents (previously, the maximum limit was set at Rp1,500,000 for claims without original documents) to simplify the process.

  • Building kinship among colleagues through Together FM Radio

To maintain and strengthen employee communication, Bank DBS Indonesia holds an internal radio programme called Together FM as part of the Together Movement programme, a DBS Indonesia initiative to ensure good employee communication during this era of remote working. The Together Movement programme encourages employees to develop the Talk, Organize, Grow, and Express (T-O-G-E) value and the Trust, Huddle, Empathize, and Resourceful (T-H-E-R) behaviour in team leaders/ people managers.

The Together FM programme aims at keeping employees connected in the midst of the pandemic that requires some employees to work from home and others in the office by exchanging greetings, songs, messages or simply commenting on broadcast topics, doing activities individually or virtually in groups, to maintain employee engagement, as well as a good employee solidarity, thus establishing harmonious work relationships. In addition, Together FM also incorporates the People of Purpose humanitarian programme into several sessions to maintain the humanistic values of employees. During the pandemic, all of Together FM's activities are carried out virtually and are associated with relevant themes, such as the anniversary of Bank DBS Indonesia, the celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Youth Pledge Day, and Family Day.

"The Together Movement, which encompasses Together FM, aims at providing employees with room for discussion as well as at building warm and open communication among employees so that common goals can be achieved faster. It is hoped that Bank DBS Indonesia employees will be accustomed to and straightforward in giving feedback or constructive suggestion, both to fellow employees, employees and their superiors, even to management and the company regardless of the pandemic situation," said Aries Sunu, Head of HR PT Bank DBS Indonesia.

The commitment has earned Bank DBS Indonesia “The Best HR Management for The Outstanding HR Transformation Initiatives” award for the “International Bank” category at Warta Ekonomi Indonesia Human Resources (HR) Awards 2021 and the Best Employer title from Kincentric for two consecutive years (2020 – 2021)].
