Global Transaction Services

Managing Director & Group Head

Soon Chong is the Group Head of Global Transaction Services (GTS) at DBS Bank, a role he has held since 2021. He is responsible for the bank’s cash and liquidity management, trade finance, and securities and fiduciary services businesses.

Under his leadership, GTS continued to deepen its market penetration in DBS’ key Asian markets and grow its market share. This helped to cement the bank as a leading pan-Asian transaction banking leader. In addition, the business has also received significant customer validation – in the 2024 Coalition Greenwich Awards, DBS was named Quality Leader for Cash Management in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In 2023, corporates polled by Euromoney in its Cash Management Survey ranked DBS first in the “Global Best Service – Overall (Non-Financial Institutions)” category. DBS was also recognised as “Best Transaction Bank” and “Best in Treasury and Cash Management” in Asia by The Asset.

Since joining the bank in 2006, Soon Chong has honed his experience and expertise through a range of roles. Prior to his current position, he was Regional Head of Product Management in GTS. His other stints in DBS include Regional Head of Investment Products & Advisory in the Consumer Banking Group, and Head of Balance Sheet & Strategic Portfolio Management in Corporate Treasury.

In addition to Soon Chong’s responsibilities in DBS, he is a Board Member of the Singapore Land Authority, Partior and Singapore Trade Data Exchange Services. He was previously a Board Member of Nikko Asset Management (Asia).

Before joining DBS, Soon Chong worked at Algorithmics Inc (now part of IBM) as well as the Monetary Authority of Singapore, where he covered financial risk consultancy, bank capital and prudential policy, macroeconomic and monetary policy research, and international financial cooperation.

Soon Chong holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore.
