Singapore, 26 May 2017 - DBS Marina Regatta will debut yet another first-of-its-kind experience come 4 June night. As a finale to the DBS Marina Regatta, DBS will partner Intel to bring to audiences at the Marina Bay a tightly choreographed mass drone display that celebrates the fusion of technology and artistry. This will be the first time that the Intel® Shooting Star™ drone fleet will appear in a public performance in Asia. 50 Intel drones will light up the skies in front of the Marina Bay Promontory in a three-minute performance at 8:15pm on 4 June.

Flying in dynamic formations, the drones will showcase different shapes and colours to reveal a bespoke animation designed specifically for the DBS Marina Regatta. Dancing in mid-air to a specially commissioned musical piece by Singaporean composer and music producer, Eric Wong (United Records), the show promises to awe with its precision and finesse in a beautifully choreographed display. The drones also recently made headlines around the world and went viral on social media after they were shown in Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Halftime performance in the US earlier this year.

Said Karen Ngui, Head of Group Strategic Marketing and Communications, DBS Bank, “This will be a unique light extravaganza and we are delighted to partner leading technology company Intel to make this possible. Having Asia’s first drone display in DBS Marina Regatta’s finale will aptly cap off Singapore's biggest bay festival. It also gives us great pleasure to work with homegrown music talent, Eric Wong, as he brings to life his innovative and contemporary take on 'fireworks' and we hope the performance will be a memorable crowd pleaser.”

"We are excited to bring our Drone Light Show to the first ever public show in Asia. Singapore is the perfect venue for such an occasion and we are looking forward to debuting the Intel Shooting Star drones with DBS,” said Natalie Cheung, General Manager of Drone Light Shows at Intel.

Unlike traditional fireworks, the drones are purpose built for light shows and are inherently environmentally friendly. Intel drones weigh about 11 ounces. They are made of flexible plastic and foam, and the propellers are covered by protective cages. Each drone is equipped with built-in LED lights that can create over 4 billion colour combinations. The fleet of drones is controlled by one pilot. Intel is a pioneer in drone technology choreography, thrilling audiences all over the world with dazzling displays. Using the Intel drone fleet, Intel set a Guinness World Records achievement in 2016 for Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) being airborne simultaneously.

This year’s regatta will also feature the following first-of-its-kind experiences

• SEA’s largest ever pop-up urban beach at over 21,000 sq ft – or the size of 1.5 Olympic pools, filled with sand weighing over 151,000 kg – or about 8 truckloads. It is twice the size of last year’s urban beach and can fit up to 2,000 people.

• SG’s largest inflatable water obstacle course, Battle Bay, at over 11,000 sq ft with nine obstacles. At the course, challengers will have to navigate their way through rope swings, monkey bars, balance blocks and walls. The course will test their agility, speed and strength. Up for grabs is SGD 8,000 in prize money for the fastest individuals and teams. The best team and individual will also win a trip to Beijing.

                                     obstacle course

• SG’s biggest pop-up interactive art experience, Bay Dome, at 7.5 metres tall – around 2.5 stories tall

In 2013, DBS committed a total of SGD 22 million to enlivening the Marina Bay area over six years. Since then, as part of the bank’s continuing efforts to bring the Bay to the people, and the people to the Bay, DBS-run and sponsored initiatives such as the DBS Marina Regatta, DBS Marina Bay Sailing Programme, POSB PAssion Run for Kids, and its other complimentary cycling and yoga activities have attracted more than 500,000 to the Bay – transforming Marina Bay into a bustling hub of activity.
