Waste4Change Together with Bank DBS Indonesia Realizes Trash-Free Indonesia | Bahasa
The First Social Entrepreneur to Apply DBS Foundation’s ‘Zero Waste to Landfill' Method
Alarmed with the state of waste in Jakarta, Bijaksana Junerosano, better known as Sano, felt compelled to bring about change. Sano then established Waste4Change, a waste management service company that not only provides garbage transportation and sorting services but also strategic services to companies in Indonesia.
"We established Waste4Change as a solution in the form of a responsible waste management service company. The number '4' in the name Waste4Change denotes four areas, namely: Consult, provides consultations based on in-depth research and training on responsible waste management; Campaign, provides education to companies, residences, schools and communities about the importance of responsible waste management; Collect, collects waste from residential or commercial areas to be brought to the Waste4Change office to be sorted; Create, collaborates with trusted partners to convert waste into recycled materials," said Sano, founder of Waste4Change.
Waste4Change’s mission is to realize a trash-free Indonesia and to collaborate with Bank DBS Indonesia to achieve the goal. Waste4Change started the business by participating in DBS Foundation’s programs, such as business workshops, social entrepreneurship assistance and business coaching. In 2018, Waste4Change collaborated with Bank DBS Indonesia as a waste management vendor. Established in 2014, the company provides waste management services to several clients, including the Vida Bekasi housing complex. Waste4Change does not only provide waste management services but also educates residents of the housing complex about waste management. Currently, more than 1,700 homes and large companies partners with Waste4Change.
"We want to create a waste-free Indonesia. To realize this mission, we cannot work alone. Therefore, we collaborate with a company that has the same mission, namely Bank DBS Indonesia, through a variety of activities including to provide education for school children. Recently, we held a 3R School Adoption education program in Bekasi to provide knowledge and to develop the right mindset about waste from an early age," said Sano.
A distinctive feature of Waste4Change is the use of the “Zero Waste to Landfill” method. Using the method, Waste4Change sorts waste at the source and processes the waste without sending it to the Final Disposal Site (TPA), and comprehensive reporting of waste transportation. Sano added, "This year we will cooperate with the Jakarta Provincial Government for overall waste management in Jakarta. This is a good step to creating a waste-free Indonesia."
In a video uploaded by Bank DBS Indonesia on the official DBS Indonesia YouTube channel, Sano shares inspiring insights into Waste4Change’s waste management system. Watch the video here.
