Unique carnival featuring Singapore’s largest kids’ yoga sessions aims to promote the importance of mental and physical wellness amongst families

Singapore, 30 Aug 2016 - Around 7,500 participants will run for a good cause on Sunday, 4 September 2016 at the 8th edition of the POSB PAssion Run for Kids. The annual charity run has raised a total S$1 million this year with strong support from corporate partners and the public to fund children’s programmes through the POSB PAssion Kids Fund. Mr Chan Chun Sing, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association (PA) and Minister in Prime Minister’s Office will flag-off the 3.5KM Family Walk.

Jointly-organised by the PA and POSB, the event will also feature a unique carnival where Singapore’s largest kids’ yoga sessions will be held. The two yoga sessions will see up to 200 children participate as part of the ‘Wellness by the Bay’ themed carnival. This year, organisers hope to promote the importance of mental and physical wellness amongst the young who will take Singapore into the future. Apart from the run and family walk, participants can look forward to taking part in a series of exciting carnival programmes such as obstacle courses and an informal panel discussion which will dwell on topics close to the hearts of young families. Fresh off its month-long run at the National Library Building, the POSB Gallery will also move to Marina Promontory, giving more event-goers the chance to enjoy the popular exhibition.

Peter Seah, Chairman of DBS Group Holdings, said, “As Singapore’s oldest and most loved bank, POSB is deeply woven into the fabric of the nation and we stay true to our mission of being the ‘People’s Bank’. The POSB Passion Run for Kids is now in its eighth year and I’m deeply heartened to see the continued strong support from our corporate partners and donors. Through the POSB PAssion Kids Fund, we will continue to support our leaders of tomorrow through the various programmes that we have set up, and help them reach their full potential and realise their dreams.”

Chief Executive Director, People’s Association, Mr Ang Hak Seng, BBM said, “Like POSB, the People’s Association and our grassroots work to serve our residents within our neighbourhoods. We are happy to partner POSB. They are an example of organisations which make a difference in the lives of many in our community. It is an example that we hope that other corporates will emulate, to help build a more inclusive community. The POSB PAssion Kids Fund has benefitted over 244,000 children from different backgrounds through over 66 programmes. This year, PA will be collaborating with more Voluntary Welfare Organisations to bring the programmes deeper into the community so that many more children can build the Singapore of the future to fulfil their dreams and aspirations.”

As a lead up to the 10th anniversary of the run in 2018 and to thank the participants for supporting the run throughout the years, a special edition of the POSB PAssion Run for Kids medal will be introduced this year. This medal can be pieced together with the medals for both editions of the runs in 2017 and 2018 to form a special edition POSB PAssion Run for Kids Medal set.
