SINGAPORE,25 April 2018 -

As part of its 50th anniversary and in hopes of inspiring the next-generation of Singaporeans to achieve their dreams, DBS today announced that it will partner local sailing athletes Griselda Khng and Olivia Chen.

The six-figure sponsorship will see DBS and the duo collaborate on a series of community events and social media engagements from 2018 to 2020. Both Khng and Chen are currently training full-time in Barcelona to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Sim S.Lim, DBS’ Singapore Country Head said, “The resilience, passion and spirit of excellence of the next generation of athletes are an inspiration to all of us. Griselda and Olivia have big ambitions in sailing and they have been working very hard despite facing challenges along the way. We are so pleased to support them in their journey towards their biggest goal - the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.”

Khng represented Singapore at the Rio Olympics in 2016 where she finished 15th overall and was placed as the top Asian in the world. She started sailing at 12 and the sport has moulded her into the person she is today. “Sailing has taught me to never give up and this journey has been very rewarding. With DBS’ support, I am even more determined to perform my best at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.”

Chen added, “Besides passion and hard work, support from our families and the community is equally important. They keep us motivated every day. We are glad to have DBS’ support and we hope other young athletes will be inspired to pursue what they love.”

DBS has been an ardent supporter of local athletes and a partner of the spexBusiness programme since 2014. The bank also recently announced its partnership with Singapore’s first Olympic Gold medallist, Joseph Schooling.

The three athletes will be part of the upcoming DBS Marina Regatta that will take place at The Promontory@Marina Bay over two weekends of exhilarating fun this year, on 26-27 May and 2-3 June. The event is set to be bigger than ever as DBS celebrates its golden jubilee, offering an array of activities for adrenaline junkies, urban athletes and families, including Southeast Asia’s largest land and water obstacle course, Battle Bay Extreme.
