Introduces Southeast Asia’s largest land and water obstacle course, Battle Bay Extreme and brings back Asia’s biggest Dragon Boating prize purse

Singapore, 11 Apr 2018 - In celebration of its 50th anniversary this year, DBS is taking the seventh edition of the DBS Marina Regatta to greater heights – extending the event over two weekends instead of one and partnering with American sports brand Under Armour to introduce the most technically challenging obstacle course in Southeast Asia. Battle Bay Extreme is also the region’s largest land and water obstacle course.

The DBS Marina Regatta will be held at The Promontory@Marina Bay on 26-27 May and 2-3 June. It will be open to everyone from adrenaline junkies, urban athletes to families looking for some fun by the Bay.

Sim S. Lim, DBS Singapore Country Head said, “The DBS family looks forward to hosting Singaporeans from all walks at the DBS Marina Regatta every year. This year’s regatta is especially significant for us as we are also celebrating our golden jubilee. To mark this special occasion, we have curated a series of activities that best represents what makes DBS special to our customers. We have Battle Bay Extreme which best demonstrates our tenacious spirit, Asia’s largest dragon boating competition which plays to our spirit of excellence and competition and a Creator’s Market which represents our spark of creativity and all things fun.”

Battling it out at SEA’s largest obstacle course for a good cause
Headlining this year’s event is the adrenaline-pumping land and water obstacle course, Battle Bay Extreme, designed for participants to push their limits and dig deep to draw out their tenacious spirit beyond just physical strength but also mental mettle, endurance and speed. Participants will be able to choose from three thrilling levels, ranging from beginner (Initiate), intermediate (Intense) to advanced (Insane). To get battle-ready, DBS will also be holding a series of complimentary fitness and wellness activities around the Bay starting from 17 April. Registrations for the complimentary pre-regatta fitness classes and Battle Bay Extreme are now open at www.dbsmarinaregatta.com. Prices for Battle Bay Extreme start from SGD 8, making it the most affordable sporting event in Singapore. For an early-bird fee of SGD 38, participants will also be able to test their strength and resilience at stations such as a six-foot wall, inverted ladders, rope climbs, quintuple steps and more. All registered participants will receive a goodie bag with exclusive DBS Marina Regatta branded products as well as TripleFit discount passes.

This year, participants will also be pushing their limits for a good cause. In addition to donating SGD 50,000, DBS will donate all registration fees from Battle Bay Extreme to Thye Hua Kwan in support of their adoption of innovative solutions for Active Aging seniors. The donation will likely add up to over SGD 100,000. Singapore’s Olympic Games, World Championships and Asian Games medallist Joseph Schooling will also lead a celebrity challenge to raise funds for charity.

Said Lim, “We have always been committed to bringing joyful experiences to the visitors of the Bay, and this year is no different. We are pleased to welcome Singapore’s golden boy Joseph Schooling to the DBS Marina Regatta. He is an inspiration to everyone, and embodies the spirit of excellence that also drives Singaporeans to reach for greater heights.”

Paddling for the Asia’s biggest Dragon Boating prize purse
Organised in partnership with the Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA), the DBS Marina Regatta will also host the seventh edition of the international dragon boating competition. It will welcome an estimated 80 teams from across Asia to compete for cash prizes totalling SGD 134,000, the largest prize money on offer for the sport in Asia.

Dr Chia Shi-Lu, President of the SDBA said, “We are very excited to be part of DBS’ Golden Jubilee celebrations this year. With the huge support of DBS, the dragon boating community has grown exponentially both in Singapore and regionally, with the DBS MR being one of the most anticipated regattas annually.”

Getting crafty at the Creators’ Market and shopping at Artbox
Event-goers looking for a more laidback weekend can head over to the DBS Creators’ Market, a space that will house a communal kitchen, an open-area for wellness activities and a bazaar where healthy snacks and drinks can be enjoyed. Located a short stroll away at the Bayfront Event Space will also be Thailand’s largest contemporary pop-up market, Artbox. Held in conjunction with this year’s DBS Marina Regatta, Artbox will feature over 400 lifestyle, fashion, food and social enterprise stalls selling unique finds from across the region.
