Capturing the Story of Social Entrepreneurship through Photography


INDONESIA,08 June 2017 -

In order to strengthen the relationships with media and community, PT Bank DBS Indonesia ("Bank DBS Indonesia") held a Homecoming Photo Exhibition at Qubicle Center, South Jakarta, entitled with "A Journey to Live Kind" – a photo exhibition from behind the lenses of #LiveMore Society Photo Challenge winners. The winners present selected photos that tells the story of social entrepreneurs in improving the socio-economic life of local communities through their social empowerment program.


Started with embracing the communities of photography, in February 2017, Bank DBS Indonesia has launched a photography competition #LiveMoreSociety: Photo Challenge, as an invitation of enjoying life to be more meaningful that translated from DBS brand message "Live More, Bank Less" through photography.


As a reward from #LiveMore Society Photo Challenge, the winner is dispatched to a trip called "A Journey to Live Kind" to three destinations: Mamasa-West Sulawesi, Watublapi-Flores, and Malang-East Java, that not only bring the winners to a beauty-nature places with the warmth of its local community but also to a valuable experience that they may collect during the volunteering in the various social entrepreneurship in each three destinations area.


One of the rarest experience is weaving experience, taught by the Watubo Weaving Group from Watublapi Village, Flores. This group is a social enterprise initiated by NOESA, a social entrepreneur who is driven to empower local community through weaving groups in order to improve the local economy.


The other displayed photos are capturing the story of Toraja Melo, empowering weavers mothers in Pebassian Village and Balla Village, Mamasa, South Sulawesi. Another inspiring story is the photos that captured Sahawood, tell on how former inmates and drug addicts in Malang, East Java in starting their new chapter of life through empowerment in making wood-framed glasses.


Director Strategy and Planning Bank DBS Indonesia - Rudy Tandjung expressed his excitement towards these social-themed photography, when opening the exhibition as well as breaking the fast with media, "Indonesian is a sociaty that are very creative, therefore the role of these social entrepreneurs is very needed in order to develop the existing potential to be more useful, especially in terms of economics, how the community can promote their products more effectively. I am proud that finally these inspirational stories can be represented and illustrated beautifully through this photography, inline to the spirit of our brand - Live More, Bank Less. "


Bank DBS Indonesia always strives actively to establish the banking experience for customers to be more easy, smart, fast, and fun. This thing can be reflected in the company's brand campaign carried by DBS Indonesia in the last 2 years, namely "Live more, bank less".

In addition to the photography community, DBS Indonesia will continue to widen the spirit of #LiveMore this time by bringing more people and other communities."


#LiveMoreSociety: Photo Challenge contest has reached more than 2,528 photographs for one month - eight (8) selected as the winners and six of them volunteered directly and went to social entrepreneurship locations in April and May 2017. The judging session was open and live via media Social Facebook where the jury / photography experts - Arbain Rambey and Harris Syn assessed all the photos that are entitled to be the winner.
