JIM

Jobs Intelligence Maestro, or JIM, is DBS' virtual bank recruiter.

Problem Statement

How might we automate and streamline our recruitment process?

The Startup

impress.ai

A startup that develops AI-powered recruitment solutions for enterprise businesses.

About the Challenge

Recruiters spend a third of their time carrying out repetitive tasks such as screening resumes, making calls to shortlist candidates, and answering questions over emails. Catering to the busy candidates also means that recruiters often need to work extra hours. For job applicants, squirreling away time to head down for physical interviews during the work day is also a big problem.

The Solution

With JIM, candidates can access the platform and answer a series of pre-interview questions and tests that previously had to be carried out at face-to-face meetings. The intelligent chatbot autonomously interviews candidates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing flexibility to candidates and alleviating recruiters of these time-consuming tasks.

The platform then shortlists suitable candidates, which will be reviewed and selected by recruiters for a face-to-face interview. The chatbot is also able to answer any job-related questions from the candidate. Since its launch in June 2018, DBS’s HR has seen 40 man-hours saved per month.

The Startup Experience

The internal expertise unique only to Startup Xchange was crucial for this project; it provided the guidance necessary for impress.ai to capture an accurate understanding of the DBS hiring process, as well as the discovery and analysis of pain points faced by the DBS Talent Acquisition Group and its candidates. This enabled impress.ai to develop an AI chatbot that would address these issues.

Since its partnership with Startup Xchange, impress.ai has expanded rapidly from a local team of three to 20 employees across its offices in Singapore, the United States and India in under two years. The startup has also since observed an impressive five-fold increase in its revenue.

The partnership has also given them insights into the value of its product in the talent acquisition industry. This helped them modify their business model and product offerings to different strata of clientele, giving them more opportunities and greater scalability.

We have had an amazing experience working with the DBS team. The mindset of the team is very welcoming and everyone we have worked with comes from a similar mindset, where they value innovation and focus on the future of digital technology. Partnering with the Startup Xchange programme was the right next step in our journey to gain momentum and growth.
