Bank DBS Indonesia donates more than Rp6 billion in humanitarian aid for disaster recovery efforts in Aceh and West Sumatra | Bahasa

Indonesia, 15 Jun 2026 - As part of its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, Bank DBS Indonesia has donated more than Rp6 billion through the Sumatra Disaster Relief programme to support post-disaster recovery efforts in Aceh and Sumatra. The aid was distributed as an emergency response to strengthen the resilience of affected communities and support 11,475 families, or 67,653 vulnerable individuals affected by floods and landslides in 222 villages. Through DBS Foundation, Bank DBS Indonesia, together with local partner Plan Indonesia, distributed the aid from January to April while ensuring that the aid reached those most in need, enabling post-disaster recovery efforts to be carried out in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

President Director of PT Bank DBS Indonesia Lim Chu Chong said, “Bank DBS Indonesia upholds a commitment that goes beyond banking. As a trusted partner in supporting an inclusive economy, we have a responsibility to serve as a source of strength and a force for good that stands alongside our communities, especially in challenging times. The condition of communities in Aceh and West Sumatra as they navigate this critical recovery period is also our priority as part of our long-term contribution.”

The emergency response programme was designed to ensure that the basic needs of affected communities were met, while also helping them move toward sustainable recovery. Through this partnership, the aid reached several areas in Aceh, including Bireuen, Pidie Jaya, Central Aceh, and North Aceh. Beyond that, the collective aid also reached Agam and Padang Pariaman in West Sumatra. Bank DBS Indonesia distributed the aid through a collective effort with strategic partners such as Plan Indonesia, Mercy Corps Indonesia, Nazava, Adena Coffee, and several other local partners. The aid distribution was overseen by DBS Foundation.

The aid programme focused primarily on meeting urgent needs, ranging from providing access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene facilities and supplies, rehabilitation of water sources and piping systems, to the provision of emergency shelters and essential household needs. The programme also included support for affected children and families through the distribution of school supplies, the provision of temporary learning spaces, and multipurpose cash assistance that could help households meet priority needs during the recovery period.

In total, the programme reached 6 districts, with beneficiaries consisting of 20,085 girls, 17,625 boys, 12,635 adult females, and 17,308 adult males. Apart from the aforementioned beneficiaries, the programme also gave special attention to vulnerable groups, including 356 elderly people over 50 years old and 20 people with disabilities.

In addition to providing primary assistance, Bank DBS Indonesia also contributed to efforts to strengthen the protection and social recovery of affected communities. The contribution covered psychosocial support sessions, the strengthening of community resilience and protection, gender-based violence prevention training, and capacity building for the education sector in emergencies. Bank DBS Indonesia also supported the strengthening of disaster response coordination with local governments, humanitarian coordination platforms, the BNPB, and local civil society organisations to ensure that recovery efforts could run in a more focused and sustainable manner.

Executive Director of Plan Indonesia Dini Widiastuti said, “We are grateful to Bank DBS Indonesia for the support and trust given to Plan Indonesia. This collaboration allows us to distribute assistance effectively to communities in need, especially the most vulnerable groups. We are optimistic that this partnership will create a significant positive impact while accelerating community recovery efforts.”

Sustainability is not just an agenda for Bank DBS Indonesia but an identity driven by three sustainability pillars as the main drivers of long-term value, namely:
  1. Responsible Banking, to empower customers to become more sustainable and expand access to essential financial services.

  2. Responsible Business Practices, to ensure the corporation acts ethically and responsibly as an organisation.
