Indonesia, 24 Jul 2026 - This year's National Children's Day marked a special occasion for 80 children from waste picker communities in Bintara Jaya and Johar Baru. PT Bank DBS Indonesia (DBS), in collaboration with Yayasan Mahija Parahita Nusantara, brought them out of their neighbourhoods to take part in Exploration Day, exploring the Bank Indonesia Museum and Jakarta's historic Kota Tua area on Friday (July 24, 2026). For most of the participants, it was their first opportunity to step inside a museum and learn about the history of the city they call home through an interactive experience.
Head of Group Marketing & Communications PT Bank DBS Indonesia
Mona Monika said that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, grow, and develop their potential. “As a bank with the aspiration of being the Best Bank for a Better World, Exploration Day is designed not only to broaden children's horisons but also to nurture their curiosity, self-confidence, and spirit of exploration, enabling them to see more opportunities to dream big and build a better future,” she said.
As part of the DBS x Mahija Mobile School initiative, which has been running since 2025, Exploration Day complements the programme's ongoing efforts to create independent learning spaces that reach children and youth. Held in vulnerable communities across Jakarta, the learning programme covers reading, writing, arithmetic, basic English, and financial literacy.
So far this year, in collaboration with the DBS People of Purpose employee volunteer movement, the programme has organised 10 children's learning sessions—including the "Mini Jejak Bintang" creative showcase in Bintara Jaya and Johar Baru—as well as 11 mentoring sessions for youth and parents. The initiative also featured DBSpiration Day, providing career inspiration for youth from Yayasan KDM, as well as the donation of approximately 1,200 books from DBS employees at the Juanda branch office.
Since its inception, the programme has delivered 1,636 People of Purpose volunteer hours, benefiting more than 150 children, youth, and parents in Duren Sawit, Bintara Jaya, and Johar Baru. As part of its long-term Impact Beyond Banking commitment, this initiative aligns with DBS Foundation's key pillar, Providing Essential Needs, by expanding access to inclusive basic education. Through the Fostering Inclusion pillar, the programme equips underserved communities with financial literacy skills, providing them with better opportunities to thrive independently.
