Bringing in a new generation of talent to reinvent banking for the future

Aug 30, 2017

It’s been a full year since our first batch of UNI.CORNs graduated but did you know that some of their ideas were incorporated into our recently launched SG Car Marketplace?

Why we started the UNI.CORN programme

We started the UNI.CORN programme with a few goals in mind.

Firstly, to reinvent education, training a new generation of workers equipped with problem solving skills and entrepreneurial spirit and drive. The programme would be a bridge between the academic and working world.

Secondly, to bring in fresh talent into DBS who could offer us different perspectives on how to solve many of the problems facing banking today.

Lastly, to encourage collaboration and innovation across DBS as we invite various business units to get involved with the programme, working directly with the UNI.CORNs to develop real solutions.

Congrats to UNI.CORN class of 2017

It’s been an intense 12 weeks and we’re proud to see the graduation of the second ever batch of UNI.CORNs.

Hand-picked from more than 1,000 applicants, the final 24 UNI.CORNs worked hard to

prove themselves as the best of the best while working closely with various DBS business

teams from units such as Consumer Banking Group and Institutional Banking Group.

This year they tackled various problems from amplifying digital payments for millennials to enhancing the home loan experience for first-time HDB buyers.

We’re extremely proud of the achievements they’ve made and we also want extend a thank you to all the business mentors who took time to participate in this programme.

What’s next for UNI.CORN – Singapore and beyond

We’ve also launched UNI.CORN programmes across our key markets including China, Taiwan and India.

It’s a big step for us as we widen the programme to regionalise and strengthen innovation across DBS.

Here’s how each market is adding their own spin on the UNI.CORN programme.

India: Working with the India School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad, the UNI.CORN is being run out of DBS Asia Hub 2 (DAH2) with 18 MBA students. We expect the programme to expand into other parts of India within the next two years.

China: Partnering with FROG design, our 10 China UNI.CORNs have successfully tackled two business challenges and presented their solutions at Demo Day on August 31!

Taiwan: Working alongside start-up Accelerator AppWorks, our Taiwan UNI.CORN programme spans across 10 weeks with 3 teams solving 3 DBS challenges.
