Indonesia, 02 Jul 2020 - Entering the new normal amid the Covid-19 pandemic, several regions in Indonesia, including Jakarta, are transitioning from the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). The government has relaxed social restrictions during the transition period by allowing public spaces, including offices, to reopen. Most companies have resumed operations by making adjustments to their working hours and implementing split-team work arrangements. A number of offices have also fully resumed operations by implementing health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Although each individual has his or her own health protocol outside the home, employees are still concerned about the risk of exposure to the virus. Therefore, it is important that every company and office building manager implements strict and detailed health protocols.

From the time the pandemic first hit in Indonesia to the current new normal, Bank DBS Indonesia as a financial institution that conducts business and banking practices responsibly has implemented strict health protocols and made operational adjustments, especially in matters involving the safety and health of employees, customers and business partners.

Want to know more about the health protocols at Bank DBS Indonesia’s office? Take a look at the following!
  1. Distribution of ‘my care’ packages

Employees are the most valuable asset for a company. Without them, a company’s survival could be at serious risk. Safety and comfort during the trip to the office and back home is a top priority. To deal with the challenges of the pandemic, Bank DBS Indonesia distributed the first round of care packages containing masks, vitamin C and hand sanitizers to employees in March. In May, another package was distributed to provide a sense of comfort and security for employees who need to work outside the home.

  1. Efforts to implement work from home (WFH) policy

As we all know, banking is one of the few industries required by the government to remain operational during the PSBB. By prioritising employee safety and ensuring excellent service for customers, Bank DBS Indonesia made serious efforts to implement the work from home policy for the majority of its employees.

The policy is supported by strong infrastructure and a good workplace culture. With technology and good quality human resources, work can be completed and productivity can be maintained while minimising health risks amid the pandemic. As of the third week of June 2020, more than 50% of DBS Indonesia's employees have been working from home.

  1. Care Initiative

The WFH policy means employees must get used to working from home. Bank DBS Indonesia understands that not all employees have adequate work facilities in their home. Therefore, the bank allocated funds that can be used by employees to pay for their Internet bills and transportation allowance for employees who need to go to the office and do not own vehicles. These funds are used at the discretion of each line manager to facilitate the transition to the WFH policy.

  1. Provision of vitamins and medical check-ups through General iFlex

Every DBS employee who fulfills the requirements is entitled to benefits from General iFlex in the form of budget allocations they can use to get medical check-ups, purchase eyewear, and other matters related to employee health. Starting from March 2020, these benefits also cover purchases of all types of vitamins, personal protective needs such as masks and hand sanitizers, as well as independent medical check-ups when employees want to have a swab test for themselves and their family members.

  1. Physical distancing at all times

Physical distancing has become a necessity for every individual when doing activity outside the home and is a major step in protecting themselves from the risk of exposure to the virus while in public spaces, including in the work area. Bank DBS Indonesia applies quite a strict physical distancing policy by reorganising the structure of employee placement in the office area. Each team is divided into two teams that are placed in different office areas. Bank DBS Indonesia also divides employees at the branch offices into different shifts. Furthermore, every table and chair are marked to indicate the areas employees can conduct their activity. This helps employees maintain a safe distance anytime and anywhere while in the office area.

  1. Enforcement of international office cleaning standards

Viruses and bacteria can be spread through objects or areas that are touched by a lot of people, such as door handles, stair railing, elevator buttons, work desks, teller tables, ATMs and many more. Cleaning public areas in accordance with strict health standards and protocols is one way to to curb the spread of Covid-19. Bank DBS Indonesia sprays antimicrobial fluid by the hour. Antimicrobial fluid is a coating applied to prevent bacteria and viruses from sticking. The cleaning fluid is used in all areas of Changi Airport, Singapore.

  1. Healthy food the key to stamina

During the intensive PSBB period in Jakarta, Bank DBS Indonesia provided lunch boxes for every employee who had to come to the office. The meal was served in the dining room on each floor of the office area under strict physical distancing protocols. In addition, every employee was also required to bring their own cutlery to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

  1. Ready to distribute medical assistance

To prevent the spread of Covid-19 while maintaining safety at Bank DBS Indonesia’s premises, Bank DBS Indonesia is always ready to provide medical assistance to all employees to maintain their physical and mental health.

Employees can take part in online discussions on wellness via webinars. In addition, employees can access online doctor consultation services through a teleconsultation platform made available through collaboration with our insurance providers. Furthermore, according to the bank’s Covid-19 handling protocols, when employees show symptoms of Covid-19, the Human Resources division will make arrangements for the Rapid and (Polymerase Chain Reaction) PCR Swab tests. Employees are also provided with an online platform for reporting body temperature every day so that the management is able to monitor employee health.

"The pandemic and new normal are our main focus in looking after each other in terms of mutual health and safety. As a responsible banking institution, we, together with our employees, always prioritise a safe and comfortable work environment to break the chain of Covid-19 infections through our health protocols," said PT Bank DBS Indonesia Human Resources Director, Satia Indrarini.

Being a bank that is driven by sustainable goals is the DNA of Bank DBS Indonesia. Therefore, Bank DBS Indonesia continues to innovate to become a bank that promotes economic, social and environmental balance. The effort is carried out by Bank DBS Indonesia based on its awareness of its role as a financial institution that runs a sustainable business for future generations and the environment. It is also implemented through leading and trusted banking services, and curated according to customer needs in line with technological developments. It is also included in the application of business models and health protocols that promote the welfare and safety of employees, customers, and business partners.
