Blue Sky Energy

Our beginnings

People are facing the adverse consequences of excess air pollution emissions - poor air quality that results in a multitude of respiratory illnesses, and ultimately climate change.

When tracing the origins of global emissions, we noticed that energy usage in buildings (energy used to heat, cool and light buildings) is one of the largest culprits of carbon emissions – at 28%, or 10 billion tons, of carbon emissions annually.

Our team lives in Hong Kong, a city densely packed with tall buildings, and high carbon emissions and pollution. As we realised that people had knowledge gaps on how to conserve energy in their daily lives and habits, we came together to start Blue Sky Energy Technology.

Our vision is to make blue skies a common view whenever we look up. By providing intelligent solutions that optimise building energy use and management, we are committed to achieving sustainable development for cities, and contributing to the betterment of the global environment.

The work we do

These days, advanced construction and building design and equipment can offer energy-saving possibilities for new buildings. However, more focus needs to be directed at the end-users, who spend on average of more than 90% of their time indoors, thereby consuming energy in existing buildings.

To reach end-users directly, Blue Sky has built a user-friendly mobile app and web platform that provides data transparency and engagement activities to encourage ways to reduce building energy usage. We discovered that mobilising involvement and recognition helps users turn their awareness of energy conservation into action. We also provide professional IoT (Internet of Things) and user-centric solutions for high-performance buildings. We provide intelligent monitoring systems and personal engagement activities to corporations, educational institutions, and non-profit organisations.

From energy and indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions, we are now actively expanding to include water, waste, and air flow solutions. We aspire to build a comprehensive platform that encourages positive behavioural changes.

Impact created

To date we have,

  • Reduced 3,500 tons of CO2, safeguarding air quality in buildings with the equivalent of planting 56,000 trees.
  • Generated over 2,500 user actions over a two-year period in one of our projects to reduce energy consumption and improve air quality.
  • Impacted 8,000 users on our platform to make positive change to their daily habits.

How we partner with DBS Foundation

DBS Foundation Businesses trailblazing for impact

The DBS Foundation Social Enterprise Grant will be used to develop and launch a holistic sustainability rewards programme to promote energy savings equivalent to 75,000kg of carbon to at least 10,000 end users. Through DBS Hong Kong, we will also reach out to more end users for education and engagement around climate change.
