Latest appointment reinforces DBS’ continued commitment to groom talent from within and embrace gender diversity in senior roles

Singapore, 02 Nov 2020 - To build on its digital leadership in the transaction banking business, DBS Bank has appointed Rachel Chew as Group Cash Product Management Head with effect from 1 November 2020.

With more than 20 years of experience in digital business and product development, Rachel will lead DBS’ regional cash product management team, which forms part of the bank’s Global Transaction Services (GTS) unit. In her previous role, Rachel led DBS’ digital banking teams in India and Indonesia and spearheaded the regional units’ business and product development. Her latest appointment at GTS also exemplifies the bank’s commitment towards grooming talent from within.

Raof Latiff, Group Head of Digital for Institutional Banking and GTS Product Management, DBS Bank, said, “The need for digitalisation is even more apparent today with digital solutions forming the backbone of businesses and industries as they operate in an environment characterised by prolonged travel and trade restrictions. With the global reset, it is also timely for new leaders like Rachel who are well versed with digital technologies to be given the opportunity to lead and provide fresh perspectives to enhance the resilience of our strategic blueprint as we step into the next normal. We welcome Rachel to this senior leadership role as she continues to build her career with DBS, and look forward to her sharing her expertise in digital banking to further develop and bring to market new digital cash solutions that can help our corporate customers unlock greater value and capitalise on opportunities that emerge from a post-pandemic world.”

In her new role, Rachel’s immediate priority will be to shape and execute on the bank’s cash product proposition in Asia, and lead the strategy and expansion of the bank’s cash management franchise across existing and new markets. Rachel will report to Latiff who oversees the bank’s digital strategies and solutions across its Institutional Banking business.

In addition to being recognised as ‘Asia’s Best Bank for Transaction Services’ by Euromoney in 2020 and 2018, DBS was also named ‘Best Transaction Bank in Asia-Pacific’ by The Banker in 2020, and ranked first globally for ‘Overall Best Service in Cash Management’ in Euromoney’s Cash Management Survey 2019 and 2018.

DBS remains committed to embracing gender diversity across the bank

DBS’ appointment of Rachel as GTS’ Group Cash Product Management Head is in line with the bank’s commitment to embrace gender diversity. Women currently make up 40% of DBS’ senior management, which includes senior vice presidents to managing directors. In Singapore, women form close to 60% of DBS’ overall workforce and around one-third of the Group Management Committee, which sets the strategy and direction of the bank.

In recognition of DBS’ efforts in embracing gender diversity, DBS was one of only two companies in Singapore which made it into the inaugural Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) in 2018, which recognised 104 firms worldwide for their gender equality efforts. In 2019, DBS was once again included in the Bloomberg GEI, alongside 229 other companies from 10 sectors headquartered across 36 countries and regions worldwide. The sector-neutral index, which is based on a self-disclosure survey on gender-equality performance, measures gender equality across internal company statistics, employee policies, external community engagement as well as gender-conscious products and services.
