India.29 Jul 2020
India, 29 Jul 2020 - DBS Bank India has extended support to 7,000 households across 7 remote villages of the Kolhapur district by providing essential supplies in this difficult time of COVID-19. The bank has distributed these supplies across Umalwad, Ambap, Nigave Dumalla, Danwad, Khochi, Sulkud and Boravade. The initiative is aimed at complementing the Government’s relief efforts.

DBS Bank India donated items like pulses, cooking oil, and personal hygiene articles to help marginalised sections of the society affected by the pandemic. The local employees of the bank supported in distributing the supplies and worked closely with local authorities to ensure social distancing norms were followed.

Priyashis Das, Executive Director - Branch Banking and Wealth Management, DBS Bank India said, “We, at DBS Bank India, stand in solidarity with the nation in the fight against COVID-19. DBS operates branches in seven unbanked rural centers within the Kolhapur region. Recognizing the challenges faced by the local households and those impacted due to the lockdown, we have extended our support and distributed essential items in these areas. We have been committed to making valuable contributions to the society and will continue to support underserved communities in the rural centers.”

DBS Bank India has committed to provide 2 million meals to the underprivileged affected by the pandemic, in partnership with organisations such as The Akshaya Patra Foundation, United Way Mumbai, Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative, Goonj, and Ola Foundation. The bank has also partnered with United Way Mumbai, and others to provide ventilators, medical supplies and equipment, and sponsor free testing for the underprivileged. The efforts are a part of ‘DBS Stronger Together’, a global initiative by the bank.
