Reduce food waste with the “Care more, Waste less” programme

DBS joined hands with Foodlink Foundation to transform surplus food into delicious dishes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the problems of local landfills’ capacity and food distribution. To help promote #CaremoreWasteless in the community, DBS Hong Kong has therefore joined hands with local charity Foodlink Foundation to proactively collect surplus food and transform it into meals for the underprivileged. Do your part to reduce food waste, and transform surplus food into delicious dishes today!

How much do you know about food waste?

Yet today hunger still strikes. The amount of food waste has increased over the years in Hong Kong, from around 850 tonnes per day in 2007 to about 1,147 tonnes per day in 2018.

The remaining capacities of Hong Kong's three landfills are going to be exhausted soon. To tackle this, we could start by solving the food waste problem. DBS Hong Kong is sponsoring a new refrigerated van that will be used by Foodlink Foundation to help collect safe-to-eat surplus food from F&B outlets in town, with the aim of saving 14 tonnes of surplus food and providing the underprivileged with about 34,000 meals.
