DriveShield

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Application

  1. How to get a motor quotation?

You can obtain a no-obligation motor quotation by clicking here, visiting any DBS branches or calling MSIG Insurance Customer Service at 6827 7608 (Mon-Fri, 8.45am - 5.30pm).

  2. How to apply for the motor insurance?

If you are satisfied with the DriveShield quotation, you may proceed to apply online. Alternatively, you may apply in-person at any DBS branches or MSIG Insurance's Customer Centre at 4 Shenton Way #21-01 SGX Centre 2 Singapore 068807. Remember to bring along a copy of your vehicle log card and your DBS VISA or Master credit cards to enjoy the promotion privileges.

  3. Can I cancel the Policy?

Yes, you can cancel the policy by giving 7-days written notice to MSIG Insurance and can be refunded up to 80% of the unused proportion of the premium. Similarly, MSIG Insurance can cancel the policy by giving you 7-days written notice and refund you the unused proportion of the premium. Either way, there is no refund if the refund premium is less than S$25 or where a claim (including windscreen, window or IU claim) has arisen under the Policy.

  4. Am I eligible for Offence-Free Discount?

If your No Claim Discount (NCD) is 30% or more, your Certificate of Merit (COM) from the Traffic Police entitles you to a 5% discount over and above your NCD. Please print a copy of your COM by logging on to http://www.ecitizen.gov.sg/ and present it with your application.

  5. Do I need to insure the COE and PARF?

We recommend that you insure your car including COE and PARF.

If there is a total loss claim due to theft or severe damage, the insurer will pay the full market value of the vehicle prevailing at the time of the loss or damage, inclusive of COE and PARF values. You will not be required to make separate claims for these items from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

If you prefer to insure without the COE and PARF, there is a 5% reduction of premium. In this case, you will have to make your own claim for the COE and PARF from LTA in the event of a total loss.

  6. Can I purchase No Claim Discount Protection?

If you have accumulated 50% No Claim Discount (NCD), you can choose to buy protection against the loss of the NCD following one accident by paying an additional premium of 10%, subject to minimum of $50 per annum. With this extension, you can make one claim during the policy year, and still have the 50% NCD fully protected. If there are two claims during the policy year, NCD is reduced to 20%. If there are three or more claims during the policy year, NCD is reduced to nil. Please note that Protected NCD entitlement is not transferable when you switch insurer.

  7. What if the Registered Owner is not driving the car?

If the Registered Owner applying for DriveShield is not driving the insured vehicle at all (e.g. no driving license), please call MSIG Insurance at 6827 7608 for a quotation. The quotation will be based on the profile of the main driver.

  8. My spouse is also driving the car. Do I have to mention that in the application?

Not necessary. DriveShield covers any person who is driving the insured vehicle on the Policyholder's order or with his/her permission. They do not have to be named in the Policy.
