Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who can apply for this Policy?

    This Policy is designed exclusively for DBS/POSB customers (including foreigners) who are aged between 18 years and below 65 years old and residing in Singapore. You can apply the insurance for yourself, or jointly with your spouse.

    Parents who both enrol for the same plan under one Pro Care policy will enjoy Free Cover for Child(ren).

    The cover will terminate if an Insured Person lives or intends to live in another country for more than 6 consecutive months.

  2. How many of my Children are eligible to enjoy the free cover if both my spouse and I purchase Pro Care?

    The free Cover for Child(ren) is for an unlimited number of children. Child refers to your biological or legally adopted child, who is unmarried and unemployed, aged above one month old and below 16 years old.

  3. Does the Child(ren) continue to enjoy free cover if one of the parents cancels the policy mid-term?

    No, MSIG will send an endorsement to cancel the Child(ren)'s free coverage in the event that one of the parents cancels the policy mid-term.

  4. Does this Policy cover me for illnesses?

    No, this is a Personal Accident policy that covers you for injury caused by an Accident except (a) the Special Daily Hospitalisation Benefits that pays for hospitalisation due to Influenza A (H1N1), Dengue Fever, Food Poisoning or Avian influenza (Bird Flu), (b) the Personal Effects Benefit which covers the physical loss of or damage to personal effects anywhere in Singapore due to fire, burglary, robbery or road accident.

    “Accident” means an event which happens suddenly, solely and directly caused by violent and external means and give rise to a result which the Insured Person did not intend or anticipate.

  5. Are there occupations that are not covered by this Policy?

    Yes, there are certain occupations that this Policy does not cover such as military personnel, law enforcement officer, fire fighter, civil defence officer, security guard/officer; professional sportsperson; off-shore occupations such as ship crew, diver, oil-rigger and fisherman; shipyard worker; air crew, or working on board aircraft; construction workers, or demolition workers, or quarry workers; workers engaged in maintenance, cleaning, roofing or repair activities involving scaffolding or gondolas or climbing necessitating the use of guides or ropes; in any occupation dealing with explosives, poisonous or hazardous gases or substances.

    However, Pro Care covers Insured Persons holding such occupations when they are off-duty at the time of the Injury i.e. the Injury does not arise in the course of the employment or any activity related to the Insured Person’s employment.

  6. Are there any other situations where benefits will not be payable?

    These are stated in the General Exceptions in the Policy. Below are some key exceptions:

    • Pre-existing conditions
    • Air travel except as a passenger in a fully licensed passenger carrying aircraft
    • Injury caused by the Insured Person whilst under the influence of alcohol or any drugs
    • Hazardous sports or activity including parachuting, racing (other than on foot or swimming), mountaineering or scuba diving
    • Suicide, self-injury or wilful exposure to peril
    • Pregnancy or childbirth
    • War, acts of terrorism; ionising radiations or radioactive contamination

    You are advised to read the Policy for a full list and details of the exceptions.

  7. Will the premium increase with age?

    The premium is not age-related and does not increase when you get older.

  8. Must I inform MSIG to renew the Policy every year?

    No, as long as you pay the premium and observe the terms and conditions of your Policy, it will be renewed automatically each year. No renewal advice will be issued.

  9. Under what circumstances will the Policy terminate?

    The Policy will terminate upon:

    • Non-payment of premium by the due date
    • Cancellation of the Policy either by you or MSIG
    • The Insured Person attaining his/her 70th birthday
    • The Insured Person resides or intends to reside out of Singapore for more than 6 consecutive months, whichever first occurs.
  10. Can the Policy be cancelled?

    Either you or MSIG can cancel the Policy by giving the other party 30 days’ notice in writing. If you cancel the policy, you will receive a pro-rated refund of premium paid from the date of cancellation provided no claim has arisen and the amount refundable is more than S$10.

  11. How do I make a claim?

    Please notify MSIG in writing of any event giving rise or likely to give rise to a claim under the Policy as soon as possible but in any case within 30 days of the happening of such event. You will need to complete a claim form and provide at your expense information, evidence or supporting documents e.g. receipts, medical certificates or reports which MSIG may require to assess your claim.
