Only Singapore bank to be in the top 50; most valuable bank brand in ASEAN for 5th consecutive year

Singapore, Regional, 03 Feb 2016 - Strong financial performance, as well as a relentless focus on customers and innovation, have paid off, with DBS Bank becoming the first Singapore bank to break into a ranking of the world’s top 50 most valuable bank brands.  Significantly, DBS is also the only ASEAN bank to be featured in this prestigious global top 50 list.

According to Brand Finance, over the last year, DBS’ brand value rose 20% to USD 5.31 billion. This marks the first time a Singapore and ASEAN bank has seen its brand value cross the USD 5 billion mark. Accordingly, DBS leapfrogged the competition to be the 48th most valuable bank brand in the world, up from 56th place in 2015.

Samir Dixit, Managing Director of Brand Finance Asia Pacific said, “The ASEAN bank brands are on a strong growth trajectory, with DBS leading the ASEAN ranking for the fifth consecutive year. DBS has raised the benchmark for all ASEAN banks by crossing the USD 5 billion brand value mark for the first time and we will see if others follow suit.”

“Most Asian banks have achieved significantly high brand strength scores, making them extremely competitive both regionally and globally,” said Alfredo Chandra, Director of Brand Finance Asia Pacific.

Since the inception of the study, DBS has been consistently recognised as the most valuable bank brand in Singapore and ASEAN.

Karen Ngui, Head of Group Strategic Marketing & Communications, DBS Bank said, “As Singapore’s biggest bank, we are honoured to be able to fly the Singapore flag high once again. Over the years, we have been committed to shaping the future of banking, embracing digital and embedding ourselves in the customer journey. Being recognised as one of the world’s top 50 banking brands spurs us on to making banking simple, smart and effortless for our customers."

The Banker/Brand Finance Banking 500 is an annual study conducted by Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy, and published in ‘The Banker’ magazine. In the study, the world’s biggest banks are ranked by their brand value, with the results reflecting industry trends and indicating future developments.
