extensive distribution network to help raise funds for the Community Chest.

SINGAPORE , 11 June 2009 –  To underscore POSB's firm commitment to the community and its belief in nurturing the next generation of Singaporeans, the bank announced details of the inaugural POSB Run for Kids event today. At the same time, POSB is making available its extensive distribution network to help the Community Chest to raise funds for educational, social and counselling services and programmes for children in need.

POSB Run for Kids 2009
Since the late 1960s, POSB has been promoting savings and encouraging thrift among the young in Singapore. POSB recognises the importance of having good money management habits and educating the young, so that they can achieve their full potential.

The POSB Run for Kids event is a platform for POSB staff and customers to help the less privileged children in Singapore. All funds raised from POSB Run for Kids will be channelled equally to an education welfare fund for primary school children and the Singapore Children's Society.

The education welfare fund will be managed by the Punggol Central Citizens' Consultative Committee, with dollar-for-dollar matching by the North East Community Development Council. The fund will benefit underprivileged students in the 39 primary schools in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

This year, POSB is proud to be working in partnership with the Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC to organise POSB Run for Kids, which will take place at Sengkang East Drive on 12 July. This inaugural event will be graced by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean.

The support from the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC has also been very heartwarming. About 130 students from Compassvale Secondary School have volunteered to help put together the race packs for participants.

Sign up for the POSB Run for Kids at www.posb.com.sg or at POSB branches. Registrations close on 26 June 2009.

POSB supports the Community Chest
The Community Chest is one of POSB's community service partners. Like POSB, the Community Chest believes in nurturing children and bringing out the best in them.

All POSB customers can donate to the Community Chest through bill payment service via phone banking, internet banking and the over 900 POSB/DBS ATMs island-wide. In addition, donation boxes are now available at all 52 POSB branches.

To encourage POSB Everyday Cardmembers to contribute to Community Chest, the bank has also set up a special telepoll line in conjunction with Community Chest's TV fundraising programme Truehearts, telecast 'live' last Sunday. POSB Everyday Cardmembers can enjoy a 5% cash rebate for every $10 donation via telepoll line 6691 2233. POSB customers can call the telepoll line from now till 14 June and there will be a repeat telecast of Truehearts this Sunday 14 June.

Said Mr Rajan Raju, Managing Director and Head of DBS Consumer Banking Group: "We deeply appreciate the fact that POSB has a special place in the hearts of Singaporeans. We recognise that in these challenging times, Singaporeans from all walks of life, including the little ones, will need whatever assistance they can receive. POSB has been always been about the people and we want to do our part for them.

We hope that many of our 4 million customers, especially those in the Pasir Ris-Punggol neighbourhood, will join us at POSB Run for Kids '09. Having witnessed how many of them have donated generously towards the victims of the tsunami and the Sichuan earthquake, we are confident that together we can make a difference to community."
