Environment Protection
As a financial institution employing 17,000 staff, the impact of our operations on the environment is not insignificant. We recognise that we can as an institution and as individuals make changes and improvements in our practices and behaviours to help protect the environment.
In 2008, DBS embarked on an environmental sustainability programme focusing on energy conservation and recycling. Under this programme, we rolled out two initiatives, which were implemented with the help of “Workplace Champions” recruited from various departments.
In 2009, we continued to run these green initiatives, and we were the first Singapore bank to receive the ‘Green Office Label Certificate’.
DBS now actively runs programmes which encourage our colleagues to save energy and recycle used materials. We also rolled out a waste recycling programme and utilities management programme to track and reduce the bank’s utilities consumption.
The DBS office at One Island East was awarded the Class of Good Wastewi$e Label in the Hong Kong Awards for Environment Excellence, a government initiated environment scheme led by the Hong Kong Productivity Council.
DBS now has recycling bins in all departments in Singapore, Hong Kong and China, about 30% of the DBS workforce is now housed in green certified buildings. DBS Asia Hub in Singapore, for example, was conferred the Green Mark Gold award by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for meeting requirements that help conserve energy and water, and which promote a healthier working environment.
